The Historic Carousels of Mt. Gretna, by Joshua Groh, documents 50+ years of Mount Gretna history, focusing on the two amusement parks and their carousels which once drew visitors to the area. The booklet includes chronological research, photographs, and manufacturer information in relation to the four carousels that were purchased for Mount Gretna Park and nearby Laurel Park, including machines made by prominent “golden age” manufacturers such as Charles Dare and the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. It not only serves as an addition to the existing literature on historic carousels but as a window into the early days of Mount Gretna’s amusement industry and the people who managed it.
